German Moon

Mama's friend in Germany's Mosel Valley took this photo - he wasn't happy with it, so Mama made the moon shine - get it Moonshine!!  I know what that stuff is because I watch  The Beverly Hillbillies.  The moon is not made of cheese either - it was put into the sky to shine in the night and keep us from falling off fences and to see little mice running around. I like the moon, especially when it's big and bright.

    It's got black spots on it, maybe it's a tree in front of it.

    oh that. I think those are little holes in the moon. It's where white kitties come from.

    Hee hee, that's a good guess Hans. Maybe it is! There are some white kitties around here. Do you know what a Siamese looks like? There are a couple really pretty ones near me. One is sorta friendly, like Tazbo. The other one lives inside a house, like you, and doesn't come out. But I'm sure she or he is nice.

    Did you know the full moon is MUCH brighter than any other phase of the moon. In fact, it's so bright if you go outside when it's out, you will cast a shadow in the moonlight! I'll explain all about how the moon works to you someday. If Tazbo tries to tell you it's made of cheese though, don't believe him. It's made out of rock!

    There are other big rocks out in space (up in the sky) that look very small because they are so far away. One of them is Venus and it looks like the brightest star in the sky, but it's not a star. Maybe your mom can show it to you sometime.

    Right now, another planet called Jupiter is almost as bright as Venus. It's the brightest it's been in more than ten years and it looks very bright and yellowish, just like Venus, except it's much higher up in the sky, not low like Venus is, and not near the sun necessarily.

    Well, your little furry noggin must be hurtin' by now so I'll just let you enjoy the moon.

    Those are words from a song about the moon by a band I like called Cat Power. The girl's name is Chan Marshall and she writes very delicate and amazing songs.

    I'll send you the one about the moon if I think of it.
