This is an Ocelot from the Amazon Rainforest.
also known as the Painted Leopard, McKenney's Wildcat, Jaguatirica (in Brazil), Jaguarete (in Paraguay and Argentina), Tigrillo (in Ecuador and Colombia), Cunaguaro (in Venezuela), or Manigordo (in Costa Rica and Panama)
The painter, Salvador Dali, kept one as a pet and named it Babou.
They are 18-22 lbs. and kind of cute!
Very cute! That's amazing there are so many names for them. I wish we had ocelots around here, that would be neat to watch them prowling around. They probably are only active at night though.
ReplyDeleteDo you know what being active mostly at night is called, Hans? "Nocturnal"
You're nocturnal sometimes! I think Jackson is "nonurnal" since he sleeps during the day AND the night!
By the way, do you know what separates the big cats from the small cats besides size? The big ones can roar and the small ones can't, just meow. Now you know some trivia that you can test out on Lucas.
Nice kitty!
